I'm a Person-Centred Therapist, which might sound a bit formal, but really it's quite simple. It means I trust that you're the expert on your own life. You already have the answers inside you, even if they feel buried right now. My job isn't to tell you what to do or analyse you. Instead, I create a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.
Everything we talk about stays between us. I'll listen without jumping in with advice, and I'll never push you to discuss anything before you're ready. Think of me as someone walking alongside you on this journey, not leading the way. You're in control here, and that matters.
Person-centred therapy is built on compassion, empathy, respect, and honesty. I'll show up as my authentic self, and I hope you'll feel able to do the same. Together, we'll work towards building your confidence, strengthening your sense of self, and helping you become the person you want to be.
I offer both online sessions (via Zoom) and face-to-face appointments at my practice in Driffield. Online therapy means you can access support from anywhere in the UK, which is ideal if you're juggling work, family, or simply prefer the comfort of your own space. My Driffield practice is in a quiet cul-de-sac with parking available, and there are good transport links with a train station and bus routes nearby.
I work with flexible hours, including limited evening availability as well as daytimes, so we can find a time that suits you. Each session lasts one hour, and we'll work at a pace that feels right for you.
Reaching out for support can feel like a big step, especially if you've never been to counselling before. I want you to know that whatever's brought you here, you're welcome. There's no right or wrong way to feel, and there's no judgement in this space.
Before we commit to anything, I offer a free 30-minute initial consultation. This gives us both a chance to have a chat, see if we click, and work out whether we'd be a good fit. You can tell me a bit about what's going on, ask any questions, and get a feel for how I work. There's absolutely no obligation.
I work with people at different stages of life, each facing their own unique challenges:
Your twenties and thirties can be a confusing time. You're figuring out who you are, what you want, and where you fit in the world. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, relationship issues, identity questions, or simply feeling overwhelmed by life's pressures, counselling offers you a space to explore these feelings without judgement. I'm here to help you build confidence and find your footing during this transformative period.
Life in your middle years can bring its own set of challenges. Career pressures, relationship difficulties, family responsibilities, or simply feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. Perhaps you're dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, or low self-esteem. I work with adults navigating all sorts of issues, including those related to abuse, coercive control, and life transitions. I'm particularly passionate about supporting men with their mental health, as this remains such an undervalued area.
Later life can bring unexpected changes: retirement, loss, loneliness, or questions about purpose and identity. These transitions can feel isolating, but they're also opportunities for growth and reflection. I provide a compassionate space where older adults can process these experiences, work through grief or anxiety, and rediscover meaning. Your story matters at every age, and it's never too late to seek support.
How do I know if counselling is right for me?
If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, or simply need someone to talk to, counselling can help. You don't need to have a specific diagnosis or be in crisis. Sometimes just having a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings can make all the difference.
What happens in the first session?
We'll start with a free 30-minute initial consultation where we can chat about what's brought you to therapy and see if we're a good fit. If we decide to work together, our first full session will focus on getting to know each other better and establishing what you'd like to work on. There's no pressure to share everything straight away.
Is everything I say confidential?
Yes, absolutely. Everything we discuss stays between us. The only exceptions are if you're at serious risk of harm to yourself or others, or if there's a safeguarding concern involving a child or vulnerable adult. I'll always explain the limits of confidentiality at the start of our work together.
How long will I need therapy for?
That's entirely up to you. Some people find a few sessions helpful for working through something specific, whilst others prefer longer-term support. We'll work at your pace, and you can stop whenever it feels right. There's no set timeframe or pressure to continue.
What's the difference between online and face-to-face sessions?
Both are equally effective. Online sessions (via Zoom) offer flexibility and convenience, especially if you're balancing work or family commitments. Face-to-face sessions at my Driffield practice provide a dedicated space away from home. It's really about what feels most comfortable for you, and we can discuss the best option during your initial consultation.
What if I don't know what to talk about in sessions?
That's really common, and it's absolutely fine. Some people come with a clear issue they want to explore, whilst others aren't quite sure where to start. There's no pressure to have it all figured out. We can begin wherever feels comfortable for you, and sometimes just talking out loud helps clarify what's really going on. I'll be there to guide the conversation gently if you need it.
